of simple fracture of both bones of the forearm caused by a fall from a tree. On admission it was found that the whole of the forearm was gangrenous up to about 2 inches below the elbow. The soft parts from the wrist up to the line of demarcation had fallen off, leaving the bone quite bare ; but those of the hand were still intact. For want of sufficient space below the elbow it was decided to perform amputation at the lower third of the arm, which was accordingly done under chloroform by the Civil Hospital Assistant after the circular method. Two days after operation the boy had erysipelas on the left shoulder attended with fever and delirium, which retarded the healing process for a few days. A small portion of the wound healed by the first intention, and the rest by granulation and secondary adhesion. He was discharged cured 18 days after admission.
